1999-11-19
DM: You go into the Castle in Glantri with Myra, the Dog Man, and a Dark Knight. You pass down the main hallway, passing Glantri guards who let you past.
DM: You go through the Room of the Orb, a huge clawed hand holds an orb in the middle of the room, the Orb has the God Knife in it from when you destroyed the Curse.
Baltar: cool
Baltar: be kicked ass that adventure
Baltar: i miss arn
DM: "Better wait here, while I tell Carnelia," says the dog man
DM: Arn got killed at your fortress of darkness when Adrianna blew him apart.
Baltar: i know. i just think he vas cool.w
DM: What did you like about him?
Baltar: not selfish
Baltar: and he could shapeshift
DM: Yeah, he was cool...
DM: The dog man goes to tell Carnelia. You wait in the orb room with myra and the dark knight.
Baltar: try to take the knife
DM: It won't budge.
DM: The dog man comes back and tells you that she is in a meeting with the Barbarians, but she will interupt it if it's really important.
Baltar: i'll just walk in
DM: Walk in where?
Baltar: yep
DM: Do you know where the council room is?
Baltar: i barge in. let the dog man tell me. never mind.
Baltar: just search around
DM: You follow the dog man who goes to warn her when you say you're just going there. He runs into a room, you go in after him. "Uh.. he's not going to wait," he says as you barge into the room.
DM: Carnelia and other council members along with barbarians turn to look at you. The barbarian warlords stand up.
DM: "What is the meaning of this?!" says one of them, "You are conspiring with the Enemy all along?!!!!!!!!!"
DM: "No, no," says Carnelia
Baltar: i am the new leader of the dark knights and i want an alience
DM: "Alliance? With evil?" the Barbarians don't seem to take this well. They could attack at any moment.
DM: "Let's not fight in here, this is a Council Chamber." says Carnelia
Baltar: i am not evil, just misunderstood
Baltar: and you are the ones who attacked me first
DM: "WE came here for a deal with Glantri. We will not give more lands up to the Dark Knights."
Baltar: what lands of yours do we have?
DM: "Hahaha, that's right, you only have Fort Monteleone now because we are so powerful. But if you think that you will come here and form an Alliance by taking some more land, you are mistaken."
Baltar: i am not going to take more land. i want an alliance vs the elves
DM: "Why don't we all have a seat. Glantri will take care of the wishes of the Dark Knights."
DM: (Carnelia)
Baltar: sit down
DM: You all sit down? okay....
Baltar: but be prepared
DM: They explain to you that the Barbarians will be taking some Eastern Lands of Glantri, and leaving the rest. Glantri will grant them the Eastern Lands, and they will withdraw from the rest. Furthermore, a great wall is to be built to define which land belongs to the Barbarians.
DM:
Baltar:
DM: Right now the Dark Knights have Fort Monteleone which is just south of Glantri City.
DM:
Baltar: tell them i have not come here to fight but if they want a war, they've got one
DM: What is your proposal?
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: i want an alliance vs the elves
DM: What are the terms of the Alliance?
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: we split their lands
Baltar:
DM: You mean Alfheim and the surrounding lands?
DM:
Baltar: yep
Baltar:
DM: Will you withdraw from Glantri and stop attacking the Barbarians. Basically both Glantri and the Barbarians will ally with you if you will be Allies in the Future also. They want a treaty.
DM:
Baltar: i want some land also
Baltar:
Baltar: to the sw
Baltar:
DM: SW of where?
DM:
Baltar: galantri
Baltar:
Baltar: s and w
Baltar:
Baltar: the fort will be the boundry
Baltar:
Baltar: how powerful do the barbarians look?
Baltar:
DM: The fort?
DM:
DM: If you take the Fort and such, I think you take half of Glantri
DM:
DM: The Fort is really close to the Capital
DM:
Baltar: ok. ill see what they propose
Baltar:
DM: Will you accept being under the rule of Glantri?
DM:
Baltar: what do you mean? the fort under their rule or all my lands?
DM: No, they are willing to give you rule over a Principality, you will have a vote in the Council as the ruler of that area, but you will also have to abide by the rules of the Council.
DM:
Baltar: how many on the council
Baltar:
Baltar: mcgreagor-barbarian?
Baltar:
DM: Well, the council is kind of split right now. Here are Council members Carnelia and McGregor. There may be others, but in the chaos they have kind of done their own things.
DM:
DM: No McGregor looks to be a pale, bony, but very powerful looking magic-user.
DM:
Baltar: i dont like rules
Baltar:
Baltar: i will rule the land the way i see fit, abide by most rules and heed their advice but no one rules BALTAR!
Baltar:
DM: Well you DO get to rule that Principality, however the Principalities are united. It's kind of like our government, only you have more control over your own area. The Council meets to decide about major laws that govern the whole country, Principalities who attack each other will probably be attacked by other Principalities (so no one wants to try), and all the local rules are determined by the Prince of that area.
DM:
Baltar: how much land outside of galintri do i own?
Baltar:
DM: Well I'm not sure now. I'll have to examine the maps and stuff.
DM:
Baltar: ok. i want a BIG peice of the pie
Baltar:
DM: McGregor doesn't want an Alliance such as this, but Carnelia is offering this to you. She seems to be in charge.
DM:
Baltar: i want the stipulation that everything that happens outside the galantri rule does not influence the people on the council
Baltar:
Baltar: understand?
Baltar:
DM: Not really.
DM:
Baltar: like if i attack way south on the world it does not matter to the council
Baltar:
DM: Well, that can be put into the treaty, but it would make them trust you less. It also depends on how you diplomatically handle yourself in Glantri.
DM:
Baltar: ok. how big would my area be?
Baltar:
DM: I'm looking about it.
DM:
Baltar: im going to get my food. be back soon
DM: okay
DM:
DM: I'm going to have to adjust these maps
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: back
Baltar:
Baltar:
DM: I didn't build Glantri very conducive to Principalities.
DM:
Baltar: ha ha
Baltar:
DM: Well, I'll just keep it like this.
DM:
DM: Carnelia offers you Blackhill, it consists of an area of lands in the southwestern part of Glantri, and you will have a tower and a small village there which you rule over.
DM:
Baltar: how big compared to the barbarian lands
DM: "This is ridiculous," says McGregor, "I will not allow him to take any land such as that."
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: "Why?, you dont want the suffering to end?"
Baltar:
DM: McGregor gets up and leaves. The Barbarians are starting to get mad because they want to close the deal with Carnelia.
DM:
DM: Carnelia offers to try and discuss things another day.
DM:
Baltar: how big compaRed to the barbarians land?
Baltar:
DM: You don't know. It's still unclear how much land they have.
DM:
DM: The Barbarians leave angrily, but not violently. Carnelia turns to you and asks you why you are really here.
DM:
Baltar: i want to help you with your problems. why should you have to give up land
Baltar:
DM: "I don't know... it's too hard to drive the Barbarians out of here, and now you want land too."
DM:
Baltar: i said that so the deal would not be closed
Baltar:
Baltar: i want to help you
Baltar:
DM: She looks at you in disbelief.
DM:
Baltar: take off the helmet
Baltar:
DM: "So it's YOU, the one who tried to make away with treasures from my tower." she says...
DM:
DM: (Is that what happened? Let me check.)
DM:
Baltar: im also the one that dispelled the orb
Baltar:
Baltar: i was disguised as someone else by the sword
Baltar:
DM: Dang I don't even really remember. You were like playing ambassador and I know you stole 15,000 gp from Corunglain.
DM:
DM: Well you did help destroy the Curse.
DM:
DM: She explains to you that Glantri really does not have lands to give to the Barbarians that they want, and there isn't an easy solution. In fact, what she REALLY wants is to just get that Wall up to keep them out in the future.
DM:
DM: Her biggest problems are that the Lands that would be given to the Barbarians are HER lands are her people would be the ones to suffer.
DM:
Baltar: how much do i have.
Baltar:
DM: She wishes that Glantri had more treasure, then they could probably bribe the Barbarians to leave. Hopefully long enough to get the Wall built.
DM:
Baltar: i will tell her my plan to turn the barbarians against eachother
Baltar:
DM: The problem with that is they are too chaotic, but also too brotherly to get involved in something like that. You can turn small clans of them against each other, but it won't do much good, there's just too many of them.
DM:
Baltar: does galantri have an army?
Baltar:
DM: Not much of one. Carnelia started a school for magic-users in the city. The City is full of Barbarians, but is the only place owned by Glantri still. The only one who has an army is McGregor, and maybe some other Princes.
DM:
DM: How many people do you have?
DM:
Baltar: have her link them together and with my help i willdrive the barbarians from their lands
Baltar:
Baltar: i dont know? how many?
DM: Well maybe, you don't know total... let me see.
DM:
DM: Alot of dark knights and stuff are just wandering around in the broken lands
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: but basically?
Baltar:
DM: You have 500 Orcs in your Capital City
DM:
DM: You have 200 wolf-riding goblins who are at Fort Monteleone.
DM:
DM: You have an army of 60 trolls in Darokin (city)
DM:
Baltar: ok. let her know. and tell her i can recuit more if needed
Baltar:
DM: And 400 kobolds in Corunglain. And you have various dark knights commanding them all.
DM:
DM: "What do you want for this?"
DM:
Baltar: i will have my army build a wall around your city and will defend it myself
Baltar:
DM: "I REALLY don't want to lose Glantri City. If the Warlords find out that they are being attacked, especially now that you've shown up here (it seems you are our allies), they will take Glantri City and destroy everything I have worked on here, particularly the magic-users I've been training.... that's our greatest asset. I know there must be magic-users in other parts of the country, but they are in hiding. If only they would come."
DM:
DM: The Barbarians won't let you build the wall, they will attack immediately.
DM:
Baltar: put it in a traty between us. that way they know if they attack my work they are attacking you
DM: But they WILL attack both of us.
DM:
DM: "You must understand that these Barbarians, they are just violent. They don't care about diplomacy. We must appeal to their greed or be strong enough and fast enough to take them out at once. If there's a way we can sneak in troops and secure this city, then it's okay."
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: i need fragarts prototype
Baltar:
Baltar: ask if she has heard about it
Baltar:
DM: hahahaha, if you ever get a wish spell, will you wish for the contraption, or for Arn?
DM:
Baltar: hard choice
Baltar:
DM: Arn's cool, but the contraption is way more useful probably
DM:
DM: Carnelia wants to give the diplomatic proceedings 2 more weeks to see if there can be any agreement, or to see if there are any other options. If you can come up with something within those 2 weeks, then she'll listen. However, at the end of 2 weeks, the barbarians will HAVE to have an answer.
DM:
DM: If you drop all your items, you can move at almost 100 miles a day
DM:
Baltar: damn
Baltar: could i get in to assasinate the warlords?
Baltar:
DM: You can try
DM:
DM: let's see.... it would take you 5 days to get all the way back down to Darokin without any items.
DM:
DM: you personally
DM:
Baltar: yep
Baltar:
DM: I'd go ahead and reduce it to 3 or 4 for running.
DM:
Baltar: darokin is the elves?
Baltar:
DM: Darokin is yours
DM:
DM: Your southern most city. The one with 60 trolls. Its the one where you fought outside against those trolls and shadow elves and ghouls. And the place where you fought Renk the first time and Elyra was pretending to be an Avenger.
DM:
Baltar: ok
Baltar:
DM: Plus, if you run, you don't have to worry about encounters cause it's not like you have to fight them if you don't want to.
DM:
Baltar: ok
Baltar: but do you think i could assasinate?
DM: How would you go about doing it? You personally could never do it with all the crap you're carrying. I guess you had to fix your backpack that broke, forgot about that. Oh well, we'll just forget it.
DM:
Baltar: ok. ill ask if anyone has seen a white dragon?
Baltar:
DM: who are you asking?
DM:
Baltar: everyone
DM: in the city?
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: anywhere close
Baltar:
DM: you mean people in the castle? or outside? do you want to ask barbarians?
DM:
Baltar: not barbarians. everyone else
Baltar:
DM: An old man at the bar starts to tell you a long story about a white dragon he once fought. He was young and brave, and he lived in the northern reaches of Klantyre. They say that McGregor is thousands of years old and that he made a deal with the rulers of the underworld to grant him Immortality. And when he was summoned by McGregor he feared for his life and thought that McGregor was going to turn him into one of his army of undead. But he had to go, everyone had to appear before McGregor at some point in time. So, when it was his turn, he went. Much to his surprise, McGregor asked him to defeat a white dragon and bring back its head. So he went to perform his duties, along with 6 guards from the castle. They stepped into the dragons lair carefully, a cave off to the north, in a snowy wasteland. It was dark and cold. The dragon lay asleep before them. They tried to sneak up on it, but the dragon woke up, and seeing creatures had entered its home, it attacked and killed 2 of the guards instantly!! Fearing for his life, he ran to a corner of the cave, while one of the guards attacked the dragon. The dragon breathed, kill all but one guard. He was so afraid, but if he did not act now, he would surely die. He ran up behind the dragon just as it was eating the last guard. It swallowed the last guard in one gulp. And he used his spear that was made from the finest steel from Thyatis. He plunged it through the scales in the back of the dragon. The dragon shreaked, and he climbed on. Holding on for his life, he could not let go. He stabbed the dragon with his sword over and over. It seemed like hours upon hours. The dragon threw him off and then layed down to die. Not only did he get the dragon's head, but a nice bit of treasure as well. "I still have me spear to prove it." he says.
DM:
Baltar: ask to see the spear
Baltar:
DM: He tells you it's at his house.
DM:
Baltar: ask to go see it
Baltar:
DM: By the way do you have the helmet on?
DM:
Baltar: not now
Baltar:
DM: Okay, he says you should buy him a drink first.
DM:
Baltar: buy him two to take with us
Baltar:
DM: okay, he goes outside the bar with you...
DM:
DM: He takes you down a couple of streets and starts talking about how you should stay for dinner and how good his wife cooks.
DM:
Baltar: ok. who is with me?
DM: Just you I thought, did you want someone with you?
DM:
Baltar: good. send the knight to the fort
DM: They can stay at the castle if you want. The knight will go back and wait at the fort.
DM:
Baltar: no tell him to look for a flare if i need help
DM: does he go back to the fort then?
DM:
Baltar: yes
Baltar: no, he comes from the fort if i need help
Baltar:
DM: There's no way he's going to be able to see it at that distance.
DM: It's like 50 miles away
DM:
Baltar: ok. he stays
Baltar:
Baltar: oh i fight to help people
Baltar:
DM: The guy takes you to his house, "Oh wife, I have brought a guest for dinner. He is a fighter or a general in the army of some sort." He starts asking you about what you do. He offers to take some of your things, and you can set them in the closet.
DM:
DM: With that, he takes you to the closet, and he shows you his spear, a pike that is obviously Thyatian in origin. Seems a bit old now, but it will still work great.
DM:
Baltar: ask the sword about it
Baltar:
Baltar: esp him also
Baltar:
DM: about him also?
DM:
DM: The sword says that it doubts the guy's story. It's just a story that he's exaggerated over the years alot. When you ESP the guy, you detect that he is very happy to have you here, and that he hopes that you'll come back to visit again.
DM:
Baltar: ok
Baltar:
DM: The pike is not magical.
DM:
Baltar: give him 10 gp for his hospitality
Baltar:
DM: Do you stay and eat there?
DM:
Baltar: ok
Baltar:
DM: Okay you have a good home cooked meal for once in a long time. It's nice. It might even help you think of a way to work out this problem with the Barbarians.
DM:
DM: If only the Barbarians had good hunting grounds, and a comfortable place to live, they would certainly rather go there than bother Glantri anymore.
DM:
Baltar: ask the people about good hunting
Baltar:
DM: "I was never a hunter." he says, "But it is known that far west of Glantri there are good lands for hunting. South too if you go beyond the Broken Lands."
DM:
DM: The plains of darokin are probably good, but you definitely don't want them there. Alfheim used to be good, but since the shadow elves took over it's had less hunting and more shadow elves. Now there would definitely be an advantage if you could convince the Barbarians to attack the Shadow Elves.
DM:
Baltar: i thank them for the meal and give them the money
Baltar:
DM: He smiles and thanks you.
DM:
DM: By the way, do you want to put any of your items on your horse?
DM:
Baltar: i would rather find a bank to store my items in
Baltar:
DM: You have 50' of rope AND a rope of climbing
DM:
DM: Do you want to store them at the castle? The banks are probably not too stable.
DM:
Baltar: ok give some to carnelia to hold
Baltar:
DM: what do you want to give her?
DM:
Baltar: barbed whip
Baltar: key with ruby
Baltar: broad sword
Baltar: tinderbox
Baltar: 50 ft rope and rope of climbing
Baltar: 3 potions of fire resistance
Baltar: horn of blasting
Baltar: bag of marbles
Baltar: sword of wounding
DM: marbles aren't so great huh?
DM:
Baltar: potion of white dragon
Baltar: ok
Baltar:
Baltar: thsts it
Baltar:
Baltar: ]how much does that speed me up
Baltar:
DM: I'll have to check. the 2 ropes take off about 100, sword takes off 60, sack takes off 100, potions take off 40, I'd say you dropped about 400-500 coins worth, which will take you up to a movement rate twice that of a normal person without any encumbrance
DM:
Baltar: even with superboots
Baltar:
DM: super boots give you movement x4
DM:
DM: Let me add it up
DM: Your armor, shield, sword, and food alone take you down to half movement.
DM: That armor is heavier than plate mail
DM:
Baltar: and its only plus one?
Baltar:
DM: It's heavier, giving it a 1 bonus to armor class (since it isn't plate mail) and it has a +2 enchantment on it, +5 vs dragon breath
DM:
DM: So it's worth a plate mail +3
DM:
Baltar: ok
Baltar:
Baltar:
DM: That's why you have a -7 AC
DM: No one has gotten that yet.
DM:
Baltar: drop some food too
DM: You probably ate your food, so I'll take off for that, do you want to keep the bottle of wine?
DM:
Baltar: no give it to the old man
Baltar:
DM: OKay you have wine at the dinner then. He is your friend. He offers you to stay at his house if you need to.
DM:
Baltar: decline but tell him i may in the future
Baltar:
Baltar: i think it is time to kill something. i have gotten too nice
Baltar:
DM: Let me fix your sheet.
DM:
DM: You know your sheet looks even MORE unbalanced now. Now you have a TON of magical items, and almost no normal items at all.
DM:
DM: Do you want to buy another small sack?
DM: Belt pouch?
DM: Baltar: i want to go see the elf leader. how far away
Baltar:
DM: What elf leader?
DM:
DM: Alfheim?
DM:
Baltar: the shadow elves
Baltar:
DM: Well you think the REAL leader is the Beast. But if you want to go to Alfheim Town, you will have to probably spend 12 days.
DM:
Baltar: shit. go see mcgreagor
Baltar:
DM: Okay, you go to the Castle and find him.
DM:
DM: "I'm glad you are respectable, but you don't really need to apologize."
DM:
Baltar: appologise for my actions and explain what i did to the queen
DM: you mean Carnelia?
DM:
Baltar: yes
DM: Yeah I guess she's kind of the Queen.
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: esp him
DM: You get the impression from him that he doesn't want anything to change much in Glantri.
DM:
DM: Do you want to put the Medallion of ESP on while you're talking to him?
DM:
DM: You get the impression from just talking to him that he wants to get rid of the Barbarians, but mostly he wants Glantri to be like it once was. And furthermore, above all, he is unwilling to sacrifice any of his power in his own principality to help the cause. He might risk a little, but not much.
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: explain that i was the one who dispelled the curse
DM: "I know everything, Baltar." he says to you ominously.
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: ask him about the undead army he has
Baltar:
DM: "What do you want to know? Do you want to join us?"
DM:
DM: He smiles at you, his appearance begins to change. It's very spooky, you think your mind is playing tricks on you. When you look again, he's back to normal.
DM:
Baltar: i want you to use it against the barbarians. i hate them too. tell him we need to get the elves on our side.
Baltar:
DM: "I do not hate the Barbarians as much as I hate the idea of what might happen if I get too meddled into the affairs of Glantri. The people of Glantri don't accept us northerners as much as we wish they would, and they don't care for our society. I hate to see Glantri in this state, but soldiers, undead or otherwise, are hardly going to solve internal termoil for Glantri."
DM:
Baltar: if we get the elves on our side?
Baltar:
Baltar: ask if he knows where fragarts lair was
DM: he doesn't know what you're talking about
DM:
Baltar:
Baltar: which part
Baltar:
Baltar: the shadow elves
Baltar:
DM: fraggart's contrapiton
DM:
Baltar: yea. i found he contraption in his lair
Baltar: if we get the shadow elves on our side
Baltar:
DM: "There is no way to get the Shadow Elves on our side. They follow the Beast. They draw their power from him. He is a creature of the underworld. The only way to defeat the Shadow Elves is to defeat the Beast himself," he laughs, "And to do that you must find the legendary City of Gold.... " his voice trails off.
DM:
Baltar: where? and dont you know about theunderworld?
DM: "I know where the City of Gold is. I was around when it was created."
DM:
Baltar: where is it?
Baltar:
DM: "If you come with me to Klantyre perhaps I will share that with you. It is not too far. We can be back here within 2 weeks if you like."
DM:
Baltar: ok go there with the dogman
Baltar:
DM: The dog man will stay in the City. Myra will go with you if you want. Unless you can give a good reason that the dog man might want to go.
DM:
DM: The Dark Knight asks you if he should take the troops that you left outside the city back to the Fort.
DM:
Baltar: yes
Baltar:
Baltar: tell the dogman it would help me find a way to save galantri
Baltar:
DM: You go to see the dog man, you also know there is Trissa and Veronica at the castle who he travels with.
DM:
Baltar: take them all
DM: The dog man, Lackard, asks you how going to Klantyre will help Glantri, and they will gladly go.
DM: (If you tell them.)
DM:
Baltar:
DM: "City of Gold?!!" they gasp "But it's only a legend, and how will this help with the Barbarians"
DM:
Baltar: i will tell them i aM going so i can learn where the city of gold is. then i can kill the beastand bribe the barbarians to leave
Baltar:
DM: "We should tell Carnelia of your plan."
DM:
Baltar: ok
DM: Carnelia debates what she should do...
DM:
DM: We'll have to continue this another day.
DM:
